2020 September news

As with most aspects of life today, we have had to adapt our events to keep our members safe and comply with COVID-19 restrictions. September saw the most events held since the restrictions were introduced. This month we held our second meeting under social distancing restrictions in the Mount Colah Uniting Church. The talk by Bev from Sydney Wildlife was most enjoyable and Boris the ringtail possum was certainly the star of the meeting.

September also saw the introduction of a monthly weekend bushwalking activity. The first walk was along the Kalkari walking track in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. This was completed by 9 members and 2 visitors. The magnificent colours of the many native bushes and orchids along with the Waratahs was certainly a highlight. The group is looking forward to the next walk in October which includes part of the Blue Gum Walk in Hornsby Valley.

On a glorious and rather warm spring day, 18 members enjoyed a guided tour of Boongala Gardens in Kenthurst. After the tour of the rainforest we wandered around the extensive native gardens. We then enjoyed lunch at Fig & Co. in a very pleasant undercover and open air setting. This was all while observing social distancing requirements.

As members appreciate the limited opportunities to get out and socialise, our monthly morning tea at Asquith Golf Club was well attended.

Later in the month a small group headed to the city by train where they enjoyed a free guided tour of the Anzac Memorial. Having two tour guides ensured all exhibits were well covered. They then took the opportunity to visit the nearby Hyde Park Barracks.

We are looking forward to a casual dining experience and catch up at Pie in the Sky in October along with a visit to the Museum of Fire at Penrith and other attractions in the area.
