After an extraordinary few months where our meetings were held over video we returned to meeting at the Church with appropriate precautions. We also held suitable outings and activities, again with suitable precautions.
Nine members and guests enjoyed a picnic at Kangaroo Point by the Hawkesbury River in July while observing social distancing requirements. Although overcast, it was a fine day and the chosen area was sheltered from the cool breeze and provided fantastic views of the Hawkesbury River. Those attending brought their lunch with them or purchased take away from the Estuary Restaurant Kiosk. It was great to chat and catch up in person with those we hadn’t seen since the COVID-19 restrictions started in March.
In early August six members and guests attended the GPO Heritage Tour. The group thoroughly enjoyed the complementary guided tour provided by the Fullerton Hotel Sydney while observing social distancing and wearing face masks. The highlight was the knowledge shared by our guide who covered the history, architecture and amazing detail of the building. This was followed by lunch in an outdoor restaurant in York Street.
Also in August thirteen members participated in the Wollombi Run on a chilly but gloriously sunny day. We met at the Cowan General Store were we were provided with the questions for the observation drive. It was then off in search of a frog and the height of a motorway overpass, among many observations. There was a quick coffee stop at Peats Ridge then on to Wollombi through Kulnura, Bucketty and Laguna travelling along part of the original convict-built Great North Road, all while keeping an eye out for more observation drive answers, including a Ned Kelly letterbox, fruit juice company details and a metal rhinoceros sculpture. We gathered at the Harp of Erin Cafe in Wollombi for an outdoor lunch and where the results of the observation drive were announced. We then wandered around some of the beautiful old buildings, a browse in a couple of shops and galleries before leaving for home.
