2023 January to March News

January was a relatively quiet month, but we still held our monthly meeting with an interesting speaker from Arthritis NSW. The presentation was not only interesting, but most helpful in explaining the many ways to manage arthritis which a lot of us experience. February’s meeting included a presentation by The Australian National Maritime Museum titled From wives and sweethearts to comrades in arms – Women in the Navy. How times have changed. Our outing for the month was ten pin bowling at the Attic, Hornsby RSL Club. Most of us hadn’t been ten pin bowling for many years and this was felt the next day.

Our Annual General Meeting was held in March and a few new committee members were appointed. It was also the month for our Anniversary Lunch which was very kindly held at the home of two of our members and was catered for by by Family Affair Catering. This was a pleasant change from being held at one of the clubs in the area.

Nineteen members enjoyed a 90 minute guided tour of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Our guide was quite a cricket enthusiast and his knowledge was greatly appreciated by both those members who are interested in as well as those not so interested in cricket. We toured one of the stands, including the media rooms, and then moved on to the members stand and it’s many historic rooms. We were even able to stand on the edge of the turf. The tour was followed by a most enjoyable lunch at the Royal Exhibition Hotel, Surry Hills where we could relax and chat.
