We held our January meeting under more stringent COVID-19 restrictions, including having to wear a mask and additional cleaning. Our guest speaker was a representative from the Hornsby Shire Family History Group. The talk was extremely interesting, titled ‘The ups and downs of family history research’. It provided a great insight and some different approaches to family history.
This month we enjoyed morning tea at the Hornsby RSL Club and later in the month at Asquith Golf Club.
We had a nostalgic and memorable day as 14 members took a guided tour of Lane Cove’s Carisbrook Historic House and Museum. It was a journey through time as we walked through the charming, lovingly restored late Victorian house and strolled the magnificent gardens of Charles and Marian Brooks when it was their family home in 1884. One of our very knowledgeable volunteer guides has been a Friend of Carisbrook Historic House through the Lane Cove Historical Society for over 20 years.
After the tour of the house and gardens we moved on to lunch at The Sawmill in West Pymble. An excellent choice, with great food and a great way to spend the afternoon.
The Amblers walking group headed to Crosslands Reserve on a rather miserable and rainy day for a walk along one of the many tracks in the area. Although the weather was less than ideal, we all enjoyed the morning walk and many discussions while taking refuge from the heavier showers under one of the picnic shelters.
