2019 October news

Female Orphan School

The guest speaker for our October meeting was Rose Osborne with ‘Write my journey’. Rose spoke about writing our memoirs. She covered why we should preserve our life stories, the benefits to us, our families and future generations, and briefly discussed how we can go about it.

Six members, most of whom had never been to The Galston Garden Club’s Open Gardens Weekend before, visited three gardens. All three were vastly different gardens and located on lovely acreage properties. A Tuscan inspired property was particularly stunning, and is such a clever and inspiring place we thought we were in the streets of Tuscany. We enjoyed a delightful lunch at cafe Sasanqua.

Eighteen members, a record number for an outing, braved the heat and attended the Female Orphan School Tour. The Female Orphan School is now home to the Whitlam Institute, Western Sydney University, Parramatta Campus at Rydalmere. Our tour guide gave us a very comprehensive and informative history of the site. After the tour we enjoyed a very pleasant lunch on the campus at the Boilerhouse Restaurant.
